Love Your Father? Love BBQ? The Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco is June 13-15
Father’s Day weekend is the perfect time to enjoy a retreat in the mountains! The days are warm, but not hot, the evenings are cool, and summer activities abound in Summit County. A favorite for locals and visitors is the Colorado BBQ Challenge which is slated for June 13-15 in Frisco.
This is not a bunch of amateur, backyard grillers or food truck wannabes. The Colorado BBQ Challenge is a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS)-sanctioned competition. KCBS sanctions BBQ and Grilling competitions across the U.S. and promotes barbeque as America’s cuisine. In addition, KCBS has an extensive Certified Barbeque Judging program. It is the largest society of barbeque enthusiasts in the world. Winners of the Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco are eligible to compete in the American Royal – the “World Series” of Barbecue.
A relatively new addition to this 26-year-old annual event is the Whiskey Tour. The Whiskey Tour is all about unlocking the secrets of some delicious behind-the-scenes BBQ, while tasting award-winning whiskey from the Breckenridge Distillery. This is a sellout each year because of stellar goodie bags (there’s a bottle of whiskey and commemorative glass included) and lots of behind-the-scenes BBQ nibbles and tips. The 2019 Whiskey Tour will be on June 15, 2019 from 6:00 pm until approximately 8:00 pm. Tickets go on sale May 1, 2019, and usually sell out.
You may not know that each year this event, sponsored by the Town of Frisco, partners with various non-profits to put on the event and raises funds for their organization. Over the past 22 years, they have raised over $800,000 for organizations that make our local community a special place.
From free daily concerts to pig races to cooking demonstrations, as well as the infamous 6k Bacon Burner fun run, this is truly a family event. See this year’s BBQ schedule so you don’t miss out. As of this article’s posting date, the Alpine Villa Retreat is still available for Father’s Day weekend. So gather your family and friends and book now for a memory-making weekend celebrating Dad and “pigging-out” on great BBQ!
